Hard burning is indicated from incomplete burning in terms of free lime content. Although the burning atmosphere in kiln is different from a laboratory oven, nevertheless it is believed that under similar conditions of temperature and residence time, free lime content will depend only on the physical and chemical characteristics of raw meal.
